Corrections

We work hard to get every story right. When we don’t, we fix it quickly and openly.

How to report an error

If you spot a mistake in any of our posts, please tell us.

  • Email: [email protected], with “Correction” in the subject line
  • WhatsApp: +234 808 901 2954

Please include the link to the post, what you believe is wrong and, if you can, a source that shows the correct information, such as an official statement or a verified account.

How fast we fix it

We review every correction request. We aim to check reports within 24 hours, and up to 48 hours on busy days. Serious errors are fixed as soon as we confirm them.

If we disagree that something is wrong, we will reply and explain why.

How we note updates

We never quietly change the facts in a story. When we correct a post:

  • We fix the error in the text.
  • We add a dated note at the bottom of the post, for example: “Correction, As of [time] WAT: An earlier version of this post said X. It has been updated to say Y.”
  • We add a CORRECTED label to the post.

When a viral claim we reported as UNVERIFIED turns out to be false, we update the post with a DEBUNKED label and explain what we found.

Small fixes such as typos or spelling do not get a note. Anything that changes a fact, a name, a number or a quote always does.

Updates on developing stories

Some stories change by the hour. Posts marked DEVELOPING are updated as new facts come in, and each update carries its own “As of [time] WAT” stamp.
