Editorial Standards

Gist is fun, but it should also be true. These are the rules every Naijahousegist post follows.

We go to the source

Before we call a story confirmed, we check it against primary sources. That means an artist’s or celebrity’s verified account, an official statement from a label, family or representative, or the show’s own official channels.

A viral screenshot alone is not enough.

We label what we can’t confirm

When a claim is spreading but we can’t confirm it yet, the post carries an UNVERIFIED label. Headlines on those stories say “reportedly” or “claims”, so nobody mistakes rumour for fact.

You may also see these labels:

  • VERIFIED: backed by an official source or at least two independent reputable sources.
  • CONFIRMED: the person involved, or their family or representative, has said it directly.
  • DEVELOPING: the facts are still changing, and we will update the post.
  • CORRECTED or DEBUNKED: we fixed an error, or a viral claim turned out to be false.

We timestamp everything

Every post carries an “As of [time] WAT” stamp. Numbers like likes, views and votes change fast, so we tell you exactly when our information was current.

We correct mistakes openly

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so at the bottom of the post. We never quietly change facts. See our Corrections page for how this works.

We stay out of politics

Naijahousegist covers entertainment only: BBNaija, music, Nollywood, celebrity news and gospel. We don’t publish political content.

We respect people

We don’t invent quotes. We take extra care with stories about death, health, children and private family matters, and we will not publish private information just for clicks.

Sponsored content

Paid or sponsored posts are always clearly labelled.
