A Taiwo Taiwo remake is not confirmed, but both of its stars have now said yes to the idea in public.
Funke Akindele told a fan on X that remaking the Yoruba classic “won’t be a bad idea”. A day later, her old co-star Femi Adebayo quote-posted her reply with “😇🤭 Letssss Goooooo…..”.
As of 4:13 PM WAT on Wednesday, 21 October, neither star has announced a cast, a script, a producer or a date for any remake.
How it started
On the morning of Tuesday, 20 October, a fan replied to a post tagging Akindele with “all we want is a remake of Taiwo Taiwo plsss”.
Akindele answered from her verified account, @funkeakindele, at 9:24 AM WAT: “hmmmmm…won’t be a bad idea”.
Femi Adebayo’s reply
Femi Adebayo, posting as @realfemiadebayo, quoted her answer at 2:43 PM WAT on Wednesday, 21 October.
By about 4:10 PM WAT his post had more than 115 reposts, with fans filling the replies asking for a date.
Why fans care
In Taiwo Taiwo, Adebayo and Akindele played T-Boy and T-Girl, a married couple secretly running a robbery gang. For many viewers it is still one of their best on-screen pairings.
What is actually happening
Akindele’s next confirmed film is The Four…No One Fights Alone, in cinemas nationwide from Thursday, 11 December. Presale tickets are out, according to her own posts on Wednesday.
So for now, the remake is a shared wish, not a project.
