Uzor Arukwe Says Marriage Is More Tasking for Women, Tells Podcast He Has Never Been an Advocate

Uzor Arukwe says he has never been an advocate of marriage because he feels it is more tasking for the woman. The Nollywood actor made the comments on the In My Opinion podcast with Bisola Aiyeola, and a clip of the exchange circulated widely on Thursday, 15 October.

As of 9:55 PM WAT on Thursday, 15 October, the full podcast episode was still up on YouTube, and the short clip carrying his marriage quote was still circulating on X.

What Uzor said

Asked whether society has oversold marriage to women, Uzor replied that the load falls heavier on them.

“I’ve never really been an advocate of marriage or for marriage because I feel like it’s more tasking for the woman. She’s the one that bears the child, you know, the children, she takes your last name, a lot of things happen,” he said.

He added that society is catching on to the idea that marriage does not make a woman, and that he has met women who do not want children at all.

He is married, with two daughters

Later in the same episode, Uzor confirmed he is married and said he has two daughters. The marriage comments are his view of the institution, not a claim that he is single.
